BIOGRAPHY
Pascal Durand-Barthez is an avocat, member of the Paris bar. Having spent most of his career as an in-house counsel, he joined private practice in 2007 as Of Counsel to the Paris office of international law firm Linklaters (until 2013) and specialised in corporate law and governance matters.
Previously, he had been the General Counsel of GEC-Alsthom (now Alstom) between 1988 and 1996, then General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Alcatel from 1996 to 2006. He was the Secretary General of the High Committee of Corporate Governance, the body in charge of monitoring the application of the AFEP-MEDEF code of corporate governance, between 2013 and July, 2017.
He published various articles on international law matters and French corporate law, books on international joint ventures, choice of law clauses, trade secrets, corporate governance (most recently Le Guide de la Gouvernance des Sociétés, winner of the Montesquieu prize 2017, 2nd edition 2018)
He has lectured or lectures at Paris X University (Nanterre), 1984-1996, HEC business school (2007-2013), SciencesPo Paris (since 2010 – including the responsibility for the Law and Governance module of the IFA Director Certificate)
Pascal is a member of the Legal Committee of MEDEF (the confederation of French Industry), was chairman of the Competition law sub-committee until 2013.
He is a member of the Policy Committee of ecoDa, the European confederation of Directors Institutes.
Other positions include :
– vice-Chair of the Competition Committee (2008-2013), Vice-Chair of the Corporate Governance Committee (current) of the Business & Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC) to OECD;
– member of the Legal Committee of Institut Français des Administrateurs (IFA), of the Legal Committee of Association Nationale des Sociétés par Actions (ANSA), of Club des Juristes.
